A patent agent is a person who is authorized by the Indian Patent Office (IPO) to practice Patent law in India. To become a patent agent, one has to write the Patent Agent Examination conducted by the Indian Patent Office every year. Once qualified, an agent would be able to search and analyze patentability of an invention, draft patent specifications, file patents on behalf of the client and prosecute the patent application. One also interacts with the patent office for clarifications, examinations, etc.
