In 2016, excited with the prospect of exporting bamboo furniture, we, the Shree sisters incorporated ‘Silpakarman’. As we began working with the communities in North-east India and understood the importance and brilliance of bamboo, we began innovating products in home and heath category. The idea was to solve modern day consumer problems with bamboo innovations. In the past 5 years, we successfully built a value chain of 325 artisans across 5 clusters in Tripura. With over 50 innovative products we are the pioneers of bamboo kitchen utility segment in India.
- What is your growth & expansion Plan?
Growing bamboo tea segment with flavored blends and ready to drink beverages, offering mass-customization for furniture, curtains and floor mats category.
- What is the story of your Trademark?
Silpakarman is a Sanskrit word which means handcrafted. Our core value is to rely on the places where these products are made, the people who make them and the product itself. There is nothing better than Silpakarman, that can absorb the ethos of the company along with the relevance of its origin.
- What are the core challenges you faced?
Community mobilization, customer awareness, overcoming language and cultural barriers.
- What is your success Mantra?
Focus on solutions and solutions only.
- How do you keep yourself motivated to overcome the challenges you face?
Whenever I face a challenge I look at it from the perspective of what it is going to help me achieve. If it is something very crucial for my venture, then I put my foot down and don’t let it go until I have overcome that challenge. My goal-oriented thought process keeps me motivated, sometimes when one thing doesn’t work I look for another alternative but, all of this keeping in mind the goals I have set for the company.
- What would be one tip which you wish to give to budding entrepreneurs?
Plan before you begin. Set realistic goals and assess your achievements and shortcomings on a regular basis. In the initial years your business will grow at the pace of your own growth, this exercise will help you build a strong growth trajectory.
